Facebook (FB) Said 'Stealing' Video Views from YouTube (GOOG)

November 13, 2015 10:13 AM EST

Facebook (Nasdaq FB) shares are on watch amid additional commentary (and some criticism) behind the company's video initiative.

The NY Post, Facebook is stealing "billions" of video views from Alphabet's (Nasdaq: GOOG)(Nasdaq: GOOGL) Google's YouTube. The claim is not a joke; pundits believe Facebook is collecting on ad revenue that should be YouTube's after users upload a YouTube video onto the Facebook platform versus embedding a link back to the source on YouTube.

Facebook is said to encourage the practice via algorithms that promote videos on its site, while ignoring YouTube links.

Last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the social media giant is logging around 8 billion video views per day.

Shares of Facebook are down 1 percent Friday morning.
