Disney (DIS) Looking to Bring New Content to Streaming Providers 'Soon' (NFLX) (AMZN)

September 25, 2013 9:50 AM EDT
Disney (NYSE: DIS) could bring fresh content to streaming video providers in the near future, which would be a boon for names like Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX), Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), Hulu, and others.

According to HollywoodReporter, Disney CEO Bob Iger said content could come from a number of the company's assets, such as ESPN, Marvel, Pixar, or Lucasfilm. Content might include more traditional-looking TV programming as well as cutting edge fare.

Commenting on Fox Business Network, Iger said, You might get a mini-episode of something on one platform and then, you know, tweets about the story on another, and so on...You also have a huge, huge explosion of shortform content that is designed for mobile and basically social distribution where you actually have people that serve as the distributor of that content.

Iger didn't comment on whether Disney might be targeting one platform or another. The company and Netflix signed a content deal last year, which is expected to kick-in fully during 2016.

On the decision to delay Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, Iger said that no one will remember if a film is delayed by six months, but they will remember if they went and saw a bad film.

Netflix is lower in early trading.
