BlackBerry (BBRY) BBM App is Most-Popular in App Store, Not Seen on Google Play

BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) might not have been joking around when it said BlackBerry Messenger was still popular.

CNET observed today that BlackBerry's BBM application was at the top of Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) App Store free app list after one day.

Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Google Play store didn't show the same impact from BlackBerry's BBM app, with the app nowhere to be found on the free downloads page. CNET noted that Google might update its app pages less frequently than Apple, or it might not.

Below is a post from BlackBerry's BBM account on Twitter, hinting that at least 5 million downloads are in progreass or are about to begin:

In total, about 6 million people are registered to get the app. Given that BlackBerry has said BBM users number in the tens of millions, traders and investors will be keeping an eye on the stats as the rollout goes global.

Shares of BlackBerry are modestly higher Tuesday.
