Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is looking to bury the competition this holiday season by making the purchase of one of its latest media tablets more affordable than ever.
Reports out over the weekend have Amazon offering payment plans on its Kindle Fire HDX line. While prices start at $229 for the 7-inch HDX and $379 for the 8.9-inch model, payments could be as low as $57.25 or $94.75 (plus tax) until the device is paid in full. Even better, the payments are made in three 90-day increments and Amazon isn't tacking-on interest charges.
Should you not make the remaining payments, the Kindle Fire HDX in your possession will become largely useless. AllThingsD noted the following fine print issued with the offer:
While the Kindle Fire HDX is arguably a great deal when compared to other tablets, introduction of a payment plan might get those teetering on the fence to make a commitment. It could also hamper sales of Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) NOOK devices and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Nexus-series tablets.
Shares of Amazon are up 1.3 percent Monday.
