Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) offered an update to its Amazon Instant Video app today.
The major portion of the update is allowing for offline viewing of content on iOS or Android devices. The feature had previously only been avaiable on Amazon's Fire devices.
Offline viewing is a jab at Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX), which has stated in the past that it wouldn't allow content to be viewed offline. Whether that's a caveat with its licensing deals or simply the company's current infrastructure capability is debatable.
Only a small portion will be available for offline viewing at this point and it isn't clear how fast that will expand moving forward.
Amazon also dropped "Instant" from the app's name, now simply calling its Amazon Video.
Shares of Amazon are down 1 percent.
