Upstream MLPs faced heavy selling pressure on Wednesday, with shares of Breitburn Energy Partners L.P. (Nasdaq: BBEP), Atlas Resource Partners, L.P. (NYSE: ARP), QR Energy, LP (NYSE: QRE), and EV Energy Partners LP (Nasdaq: EVEP) feeling the heat. Trouble began on Tuesday when shorts were successful against Linn Energy (Nasdaq: LINE) and Linn Co (Nasdaq: LNCO).

Commenting, Baird analyst Ethan Bellamy said he is increasingly cautious on upstream MLPs and he thinks the group will underperform given attention of short sellers.
