UPDATE: eBay (EBAY) Pulls Google AdWords In "Retaliatory Response" - Analyst

June 13, 2007 4:53 PM EDT

UPDATE: According to an analyst at Deutsche Bank, eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) stopped buying Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) AdWords as of yesterday in what they say is a, "truly retaliatory response to the announcement of a Google Checkout party at eBay Live"

The firm said a search at Google.com will not reveal any of eBay's commonly purchased keyword like "digital camera" or "auction".

Commenting on the negative impact for eBay the analyst said, "Google represents 60%+ of search queries and we think the ban could put ~10%-20% of eBay traffic at risk. This traffic may prove difficult to replicate among other providers in the market."

The firm said it is unclear how long the ban will continue. They maintain a Hold rating on eBay.
