Sony's (NYSE: SNE) PS4 has relative advantages, thinks Goldman Sachs analyst Takashi Watanabe, particularly with core gamers. However, it is unknown if the console will expand Sony's install base.

"We see reaffirmation of PS4's hardware advantages for core gamers as positive. Because core gamer revenue per machine is likely to rise as a result of additional paid content and pay-as-you-go online matches, a product that seriously targets core gamers appears to be the right direction," said Watanabe. "However, as it is unlikely that leading publishers will release major titles solely for PS4 (could also release for PS3), the extent to which the installed base will expand is still uncertain."

Goldman Sachs has a Neutral rating on Sony Corp.

Only had a 360 myself this gen, and I'm going ps4 this gen with a lot of my friends. Worth keeping in mind, if one person defects from an online service like xbox live, they'll likely take a lot of their friends with them who were on the fence.

High potential for PS4 to steal away customers, and there is no reason to believe they will have any defections to xbox.
