NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG) will replace Sun Microsystems Inc. (Nasdaq: JAVA) in the S&P 500 after the close of trading on a date to be announced.

Sun Microsystems is being acquired by S&P 100 & 500 constituent Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) in a cash deal expected to be completed soon, pending final approvals.

Standard & Poor's, a subsidiary of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), is a provider of independent credit ratings, indices, risk evaluation, investment research and data.
