Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. (NYSE: RS) 5% HIGHER; raises its second quarter earnings estimates. Reliance expects earnings to be in the range of $2.00 to $2.10 per diluted share, up approximately 30% from the Company’s prior guidance. The Wall Street consensus is $1.63.

UPS (NYSE: UPS) 4.3% LOWER; lowered its Q2 EPS guidance from $0.97-$1.04 to $0.83-$0.88, versus the consensus of $0.97. UPS said, "Slow U.S. economic growth and an unprecedented increase in the cost of fuel have resulted in lower-than-expected U.S. package volume and an accelerating contraction in the use of premium air products. In addition, the anemic U.S. economy is negatively impacting package volume into the United States, affecting results for the International segment. Performance in the Supply Chain & Freight segment is continuing to exceed expectations."

Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) 4% HIGHER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.58, above the consensus of $0.55. Revenues came in at $23.11 billion versus the consensus of $22.32 billion. Kroger sees FY09 EPS of $1.85-$1.90, versus prior guidance of $1.83-$1.90 and the consensus of $1.90.
CapitalSource Inc. (NYSE: CSE) 3.8% LOWER; priced an offering of 30,000,000 shares of its common stock at a gross public offering price per share of $11.00.
ConAgra Foods, Inc., (NYSE: CAG) 3% HIGHER; announced that diluted EPS for its fiscal 2008 fourth quarter ended May 25, 2008, will be higher than the company's original EPS estimate of $0.30 to $0.35, excluding items impacting comparability. The higher-than-planned EPS primarily reflects very strong Trading & Merchandising profits, which are now classified within discontinued operations. The company is also pleased with the overall performance of the Food & Ingredients segment, as well as improved execution with regard to pricing in the Consumer Foods segment.

CenturyTel, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) INDICATED HIGHER; boosted its annual cash dividend to $2.80 from $.27 per share. The company also declared a one-time dividend of $.6325 per share, payable on July 21, 2008, to shareholders of record on July 7, 2008. CenturyTel also said it will accelerate purchases under the current $750 million share repurchase program to complete the remaining balance of approximately $385 million by year end 2008 or early 2009, which is expected to increase the Company's ratio of net debt to operating cash flow. CenturyTel said it will continue to distribute substantially all of its free cash flow to shareholders. The Company also expects to meet or exceed its previously announced second quarter 2008 operating revenues and diluted earnings per share guidance, excluding nonrecurring items, of $647 to $657 million and $.78 to $.82, respectively.
