Nomura Securities Weekend Reading on Retail: Gauging Market Sentiment In Retail
Analyst, Paul Lejuez, said, "This report compares Specialty Apparel, Department Store, and Hardline Retailers’ ratings among the sell-side community."
Companies that have the highest percentage of BUY ratings are Michael Kors (Nasdaq: KORS) (90%), Coach (NYSE: COH) (81%), Ann Taylor (NYSE: ANN) (75%), Dollar General (NYSE: DG) (73%) and rue21 (NYSE: RUE) (71%).
With the S&P Specialty Retail Index up 22% year to date, a selective approach to SELL ratings seems to have been appropriate. Those that have the highest percentage of SELL ratings are Pacific Sunwear (Nasdaq: PSUN) (21%), Staples (Nasdaq: SPLS) (21%), Sherwin-Williams (NYSE: SHW) (18%) and rue21 (NYSE: RUE) / The Gap (NYSE: GPS) / Wet Seal (Nasdaq: WTSLA) / JCPenney (NYSE: JCP) (all at 14%).
Companies that have the highest short interest within our coverage are JCP, OfficeMax (NYSE: OMX) and RUE, while TJX Cos (NYSE: TJX), Ross Stores (Nasdaq: ROST) and Home Depot (NYSE: HD) show the lowest.
