Nomura Securities U.S. Economic Research: Near-term fiscal challenges for the U.S.
Analyst, Lewis Alexander, said, "The fiscal accounts of the US government are on an unsustainable path. How this problem is addressed will have a significant impact on the performance of the US economy in coming years. More immediately, however, the US government faces a number of significant fiscal policy challenges over the next year. The process of addressing those challenges is likely to play out in three stages: 1) the transition to the new fiscal year (September – October); 2) addressing the “fiscal cliff” in a “lame duck” session; 3) a newly constituted government facing long-term issues."
