Nomura Securities Gobal Software Perspectives: What’s wrong with Oracle and Why Microsoft thinks Gartner is too Optimistic

Analyst, Rick Sherlund, said, "What’s wrong with Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) and why Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) thinks Gartner is too optimistic. SAP (NYSE: SAP) and Info (Nasdaq: INFY) both had good quarters, suggesting Oracle has more company-specific things to address. We think the company needs a better dedicated hardware sales organization and the field needs to be redirected in solutions selling software and talking like a software company. We think this next quarter is likely already de-risked and we like the stock. Microsoft tells Gartner (NYSE: IT) and IDC they are too optimistic. PC unit sales in the December quarter likely saw some reduction in pipeline inventory at ODMs and shift from boats to planes for faster delivery, with no impact to Gartner data on sell into the channel, but this does impact build rates and Microsoft royalty receipts if there is a net reduction in product in the pipeline."
