Analyst at JPMorgan think Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) won the SSD controller socket in Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) new MacBook Air. If so, it would be a lose for LSI Corporation (Nasdaq: LSI), the major SSD controller supplier into the previous generation of the MacBook Air.

Commenting, analyst Harlan Sur said, "We believe that the 128G version and 256G version of the new MacBook Air are or will soon be using an SSD powered by a Marvell PCIe SSD controller as Marvell was first to market with a native PCIe SSD controller and we know of no other merchant SSD controller suppliers that have a PCIe version (most SSD controllers for ultrabooks have a SATA interface)."

Sur anticipates more ultrabook OEMs will be launching platforms using a PCIe SSD interface and that Marvell will be the major supplier into these new SSD form factors.

JP Morgan has a Neutral rating on Marvell.
