Dougherty & Co. analyst Charles Anderson weighed in on Fitbit (NYSE: FIT) amid news that Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (NASDAQ: GOOG) announced that users will be able to sync up an Android smartwatch with an iPhone on future models.

Given that Android smartwatchs have struggled, the analyst views the latest move as making Android smartwatches more competitive in the market.

"While Fitbit is not competing against these devices per se, many of the Fitbit-like features (step counting, heart rate monitoring) are available on smartwatches and over time we see these markets overlapping somewhat," Anderson commented, "It is not out of the question in our mind that Fitbit will eventually move up market and have a smartwatch of its own that supports both Androids and iPhone."
