Sheils Will Lead Effort to Solidify DocSite as a Premier Supplier of Electronic Health Record Technologies Qualifying for the $36 Billion in EHR Incentives Under the Stimulus Act

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DocSite, a leading supplier of quality care and performance management technologies to the healthcare market, announced today that Paul T. Sheils has been appointed as the company's new CEO.

With extensive experience in the electronic health record, clinical decision support and online health content industries, Sheils will work closely with DocSite Founder, Chairman and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Haughton, to guide and fuel the company's growth and lead DocSite as a premier supplier of innovative and affordable electronic health record technologies that complement workflow, save time and money, and measurably improve patient health. DocSite solutions will enable physicians to qualify for their share of the $36 billion in financial incentives available under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) provisions of the recently enacted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

Sheils has led some of the most successful healthcare IT and publishing initiatives of the last 15 years. Prior to joining DocSite, he was founder and managing partner of Silverado Health Partners, a digital health management consulting and investment firm, and CEO of Aetna Health Information Solutions, where he led the team that developed Aetna's pioneering CareEngine(R)-Powered Personal Digital Health Record, which is revolutionizing the way consumers interact with the U.S. healthcare system.

"With $36 billion in EHR technology incentives available under the 2009 stimulus package accelerating the adoption timetable for effective digital healthcare improvement systems, we realized this was the time to scale DocSite and its mission of making healthcare IT simple, effective and affordable for physicians, hospital providers, health information exchanges and health plan markets," said Dr. John Haughton, founder and chief medical officer of DocSite. "Paul brings a wealth of industry experience and expertise to help DocSite accelerate growth and provide solutions that ultimately help our clients improve the quality and profitability of patient care."

Prior to Aetna (NASDAQ: AET), Sheils was CEO of InterCure, Inc., a medical device company; CEO of MayoClinic.com and Mayo Health Ventures, the venture capital division of The Mayo Foundation; and CEO of Medscape, Inc., one of the country's most successful digital health companies, now part of WebMD (NASDAQ: WBMD). Prior to his healthcare career, Sheils was vice president of Dow Jones Interactive Publishing (NASDAQ: DJ), where he led the team that launched The Wall Street Journal Online, one of the most successful subscription-based publications on the web.

"Never in my career have I seen a company so extraordinarily well positioned to truly improve the quality of healthcare in the U.S. and to take advantage of a historic market opportunity," said Sheils. "Under Dr. John Haughton's visionary leadership, DocSite's work-flow friendly, common sense approach to delivering actionable clinical decision support and elegantly simple and effective patient population management tools at the point-of-care is exactly the kind of technology platform contemplated by the drafters of the HITECH Act to improve quality care and to 'bend the cost trend.' DocSite is already being viewed as the quality standard against which all other HIT platforms will be measured. I am delighted and privileged to be joining such a talented and creative team so passionately devoted to improving healthcare."
