Baird maintains an Outperform rating on Pharmasset, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRUS)

Baird analyst says, "On R7128, nothing can be certain until we get the DSMB safety update (soon), but our thesis that no news means no major safety issues still looks intact as best we can tell. Separately, ‘7851 surprised with positive data at a higher dose, and we have started getting visibility into the next round of closely watched INFORM trials. The year ahead is catalyst-rich."

"Signs still pointing toward DSMB green light for R7128 soon. The DSMB update is on-track to come soon; since it won't contain full detail, the key is no major safety signals. We upgraded VRUS Sep-09 after physician checks at a point when cohort 1 was pretty far along and now know all patients are through the full 12-weeks of R7128. New visibility is limited, but we learned that Roche is screening patients for cohort 2 and saying enrollment will begin in the near future and that VRUS hasn't heard of any significant safety problems. A slew of additional Phase 2 work planned to start 2010 with R7128 is also reassuring."
