Reports are Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) has developed its own tablet, the Nexus 7, and is preparing to launch it at the I/O developer's conference. Despite Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad continuing to corner the market for tablets, the 'big boys' keep trying...a la the Surface, Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) recent attempt at a tablet (which has an ultrathin detachable keyboard), but some joke it will end up being called the Zune 2.

As far as Google, a tablet may have been in the works for a while, considering the acquisition of Motorola Mobility. Well, even if the Nexus 7 is amazing, it will still have a long way to go. Because, aside from the big boys, hardware makers Dell (Nasdaq: DELL), H-P (NYSE: HPQ), Sony (NYSE: SNE), Toshiba, Acer and Samsung aren't going quietly away anytime soon.
