American Science and Engineering (ASEI) Misses Q1 EPS by 23c on Light Revenues

American Science and Engineering (Nasdaq: ASEI) reports Q1 EPS of $0.30, 23 cents worse than the analyst estimate of $0.53. Revenues for the quarter were $39.49 million, versus the consensus of $46.49 million.

“Although we are very pleased that we continue to break new ground with international contracts, we are disappointed that orders were not received in time to favorably impact the quarter’s results,” said Anthony Fabiano, AS&E’s President and CEO.

The Company reported a record $100 million in bookings for Q1 2009. Backlog for Q1 increased 53% to a record $160 million as compared to the first quarter of the prior fiscal year.

American Science and Engineering, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, engages in the development, manufacture, marketing, and sale of X-ray and other inspection solutions primarily for homeland security markets in the United States and internationally.
