Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE: ANF) was the clear "teen winner" among Black Friday retailers, noted a report this morning by Oppenheimer. New York Company (NYSE: NWY) was also a standout, while Ann (NYSE: ANN) may have flubbed due to timing issues.
"Those retailers that advertised Friday doorbusters had higher levels of traffic and conversion," said Pamela Quintiliano. "ANF was the clear teen winner in traffic and conversion and the only one that had no promotions until today, when it switched to 50% off storewide,"
Aeropostale Inc (NYSE: ARO), GAP (NYSE: GPS), New York Company (NYSE: NWY), Zumiez (Nasdaq: ZUMZ) had the same promotions as Wednesday, with select doorbuster deals.
"Beyond ANF, the other standout in our field checks was NWY, with lines over 25 deep and customers responding to doorbuster events," noted Quintiliano. New York Company had a promotion to give away 100 free watches.
ANN didn't open until the morning, which may have been a mistake since traffic had already thinned.
Overall, Quintiliano said Black Friday surpassed her expectations.
