A UBS analyst told clients to buy shares of Citi (NYSE: C) as it appears a "return of the capital story is taking shape." The comment follows a recent meeting with the bank's CFO John Gerspach.

The analyst also suggested asset sales at Citi Holdings will likely slow moving forward. UBS believes market stress on European competitors could bode well for Citi and eventually create opportunities for the bank.

Despite the note, Citi shares are trading lower with the entire Financial sector Monday morning. The stock last traded at $27.13, down 5.7 percent from Friday's close.
