In a 13G filing on MasterCard (NYSE: MA) after the close, large UK based hedge fund, The Children's Investment Fund Management, disclosed a 5.04% stake (4,337,669 shares) in the large payment processor. The firm held 1,997,700 MasterCard shares at the quarter ended March 31, 2008.
While the MA stake is a "passive investment", Children's Investment Fund has been known to take an activist approach to some of its investments. The firm successfully fought for board and management change the Deutsche Borse and has been active with US rail company CSX Corp (NYSE: CSX).
